We initially met over a project called 'Young Voices for Nature' which was grown out of the Wild Isles TV series, as part of the 'Save Our Wild Isles' campaign. It was supported by WWF, RSPB and the National Trust.
Generation Nature presented at the Chester Zoo Youth Summit which began with Xander's exploration of how storytelling can transform even the most seemingly mundane objects. Followed by Freddie and Katie, they spoke about our background, Young Voices for Nature, and the legacy it left. Tash and Alana shared the true power of storytelling and Raman and Jess closed with tips on starting your own storytelling project.
In a day, some of the young people met and created short stories to practice film making.
An example of this is the short film 'Turning Over a New Leaf' made by Xander, Raman, Alana and Halima.
A film screening in Staffordshire with Xander, Ed and Alana.
Igniting Innovation is an exciting nature conservation challenge by the Woodland Trust that invites passionate young people to share their bright ideas for a healthier planet.
Our project was one of six invited to the final in London where we were able to pitch our project to three judges for funding. We were chosen as we had shown passion, creativity, and drive throughout the 3-stage selection process that led to us ultimately being successful in receiving £4000 in funding from the Woodland Trust and to be paired with an incredible mentor.
Those of us who were lucky to attend on the day were able to connect with many wonderful people who want to make the world a better place, as well as hear from last year’s winners and gain insights into their project journeys so far. We all cannot wait to begin the journey of this project, so join us for the ride as we make a positive impact for nature together!
